When the Enemy Whispers

Feb 1, 2026    Pastor Joel Sosa

This powerful message confronts a reality we often avoid: spiritual warfare is real, and the enemy's primary battlefield is our identity. Drawing from Matthew 4, we see Jesus immediately after His baptism—right after hearing God declare 'This is my beloved Son'—being led into the wilderness to face temptation. This pattern reveals something profound: identity affirmation is often followed by identity attack. The enemy doesn't tempt us to see if we're weak; he tempts us to see if we truly know who we are. Through three strategic approaches—the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life—the devil whispers questions designed to make us doubt what God has declared over us. But Jesus models the solution: fighting temptation not with willpower alone, but with formation. His repeated response 'It is written' shows us that scripture stored in our hearts becomes strength released in our souls. The call here is clear: we must renew our minds, sand away the old stains of lies we've believed, and discover the beautiful truth underneath—that we are children of God, made for more than tending graves of our past.
